Jesus once said that "One should have faith like a child."
Paul also said how "When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things." (1 Corinthians 13:11)

Do these statements contradict each other?

In a literal way, yes, but if you look into it they do not contradict themselves.
