Yes, it's wonderful to know we're forgiven when we confess our sins to God. But that doesn't mean we're exempt from all of sin's consequences. That's why confessing sin is good, but saying no to sin is even better. |

If we believe that God is "marching on," in spite of all the brutal conflicts that mark our day, we will not despair. We can quietly await the final verdict from our Lord, who rules the universe from "His holy temple" |

Because of our faith in Christ, we can be filled with joy and hope. The Lord wants to use our life in this world and He promises us a perfect world to come. |

Merely saying "I'm sorry" is no different than the empty rituals of
the Israelites. God said, "I desire mercy and not sacrifice, and the
knowledge of God more than burnt offerings" (v.6). He meant that
repentance must result in a change of heart and a change in behavior.
That's "godly sorrow" (2 Corinthians 7:10). |

Today, as always, some will hate you for being an outspoken follower of Jesus. But make sure it's not because you are unpleasant, critical,
and hard to get along with. Being a likable person is to be
like Jesus. |

When looking at others makes you resent the unfairness of life, change your focus. Look to Jesus and follow Him. Life's injustices are only for a little while. Perfect fairness will be ours to enjoy forever in heaven. |

People pressure--we are all influenced by it. It bears down on us from all directions. But we can choose the path we will take. If we are swayed by the proud or by those who love money, live for pleasure, or long for power, people pressure will lead us down the path that ends in destruction. But if we heed the counsel of those who are humble, good, and godly, we will follow the way that pleases God. |

There's a proper time for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1), including a time to pray and a time to act. When we see someone who lacks food and clothes, it's right to provide what they need (James 2:15-16). Sometimes we need to trust God and take immediate action. |

In God's service there are no high and low people, no high and low tasks. We all depend on one another. Let's never forget those who packed our parachute. |

Happiness isn't found by pursuing it. It's a by-product of seeking an ever-closer walk with God. When we do, we will find a depth of happiness no person or thing can give. That's what David referred to when he said, "Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the man who trusts in Him!" (Psalm 34:8). |

Yes, the example set by that great "cloud of witnesses" in Hebrews 12:1 encourages our faith. Remembering them on Halloween can remind us of the triumph of trusting the Lord. |
